Why Texans lost to the Colts

Posted September 26, 2018 10:04:29 When the Texans took on the Colts in Week 4, it was the second time in the past six seasons the team has lost to Indianapolis.

The Texans had a 4-0 record in the season opener, but they fell in overtime to the Bengals in Week 10 and were swept in Week 13.

The Colts haven’t been to Houston since that 2014 loss.

The team also lost the next two weeks in Houston, losing in overtime on the road to the Jaguars and in Indianapolis to the Titans.

Here’s what you need to know heading into Week 17.

1.

The Houston Texans’ offense isn’t the most efficient team in the NFL.

The Titans scored 18 points in the first quarter on their first possession, but were only able to convert one of four fourth-quarter possessions, including a 43-yard field goal by Justin Hunter that was blocked by Andre Johnson.

The offense has struggled to find the open man, but it should be able to score a few points in a win against the Colts.

Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson (8-3) is averaging 259.0 passing yards per game and 10.5 touchdowns to only one interception in his past five games.

The first-year quarterback should have plenty of opportunities to improve this week as the Colts have struggled to run the ball this season.

2.

The AFC South is loaded with teams with some young talent.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have one of the league’s best offenses and have won six straight games against the Texans.

In addition, the Texans have beaten the Titans, Titans, Jaguars and Texans in the two games they’ve played together in Houston.

3.

The Bills will be without defensive end Justin Houston (knee) for the rest of the game.

Houston was suspended for the previous two games for violating the league code of conduct.

The second-year player, who was on the team’s injury report for the Titans last week, has been inactive in three of the past four games.

He’s been out for the Texans since Week 5.

4.

The Bengals are coming off a loss to the 49ers.

They were in desperate need of a win and they finally got one against the Titans in Week 7.

The victory gave them a one-game lead over the Texans in a division that has become increasingly competitive.

However, the Bengals need to improve their defense.

The Jaguars defense has allowed an average of 38.3 points per game.

5.

The Browns will look to make a strong playoff push.

They lost to New England in Week 8, and they are coming into this game with a bye week following a win over the Titans on Thursday.

Cleveland is also coming off of a bye in Week 11, but the Bengals are in the midst of their second game in three days.

The win over Jacksonville gives the Browns a chance to get back on track.

6.

The Ravens will have to avoid turnovers.

The Raiders, Browns and Bills combined to give up a league-high 17 turnovers last week.

If the Texans can limit turnovers, the Ravens should have no problem stopping the Titans’ offense.

7.

Texans linebacker J.J. Watt will miss at least one game with an ankle injury.

Watt was injured during the first half of Sunday’s game and didn’t return to the game against the Jaguars.

Watt said the injury was more related to an injury to his right ankle than a neck injury.

8.

Colts quarterback Deshon Foxx (3-8) has yet to play this season after missing three games due to a groin injury.

The rookie is 3-8 against the Houston Texans, but he had two touchdown passes and no interceptions against the Steelers in Week 2.

9.

The Patriots are a talented team with a great defense.

They have a 7-2 record in games against Houston, but New England has been able to win the past three matchups against the franchise.

This week, the Patriots face a team that’s allowed an NFL-high 24 points per contest, but have allowed just two touchdowns.

Houston is coming off its first win over Indianapolis.

10.

Texans defensive end Deshone Kizer is expected to play against the Bengals.

Kizer played well against the Bills in Week 9, but his status for this week is up in the air.

He has missed two games with a concussion and will be evaluated again.

11.

The New York Jets have been a huge factor in the AFC South, but this week will be a big test for the team.

The Jets have a 1-3 record in home games against New England.

They’ve lost to Houston in each of the last three meetings.

12.

Colts wide receiver Dwayne Allen (hip) will miss his third straight game after hurting his knee in the second quarter of the Texans game.

Allen had a touchdown catch in the fourth quarter, but was limited to three catches for 19 yards.

13.

New England’s offense will be led by quarterback Tom Brady (5-3).

Brady threw for 2,632 yards, 15
