What is the Mueller investigation?

Mueller is investigating possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia, as well as possible coordination between the Kremlin and the Trump team to defeat Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential election.

A special counsel is investigating the possibility that Trump aides colluded with the Russian government during the 2016 election.

Mueller is investigating whether there were any crimes or political interference in the campaign.

According to a statement from the House Oversight Committee, “On March 6, 2017, the House of Representatives voted to investigate possible collusion by Russian officials with the Trump administration, in the interest of investigating the Russian activities during the election.

Members of Congress are authorized to seek the cooperation of the Department of Justice.”

“Congresswoman Gowdy, along with members of the House Intelligence Committee and the House Judiciary Committee, has asked for an immediate briefing on this matter and has invited the Department to provide a briefing to Congress on the matter as soon as practicable,” the statement continued.

The Mueller probe is part of a broader investigation into Russian meddling in the election by Trump associates, which was launched last month.

“It is clear that the Trump transition team and the Russian state-sponsored actors were engaged in a wide range of activities that may have violated US election laws and violated the norms of our democracy,” Gowdy said in a statement.

Trump is expected to formally accept the indictments on Monday.

On Tuesday, the White House issued a statement announcing that “President Trump is appreciative of the leadership of Congress and the leadership in both parties in convening the first Congressional hearing on Russia’s meddling in our elections.

We look forward to this hearing being held before the full House.”
